Living a Lifestyle for Longevity

Pearls to live byAre you living a lifestyle that will support you living - alive and well- until 40, 50 or even 60 years from now? What about your food choices – are you eating food that will sustain you physically to live 50 or 60 years from now? Are you eating fruits and vegetables daily to provide your body with the nutrients it needs to live a life of longevity? How about water – are you really drinking enough water to sustain you and all that you do or does your body scream ‘I’m thirsty’ on a regular basis?

How about exercise or just plain ole’ body movement? Are you physically in motion during the day?  How often do you exercise? Well, the million dollar question really is:  do you even exercise?  This is one area that I personally plan to focus on this year.  Are you at walking at least 15 minutes a day?  Are you doing whatever it takes to keep your heart healthy?  What about your weight:  are you at your ideal weight or are you too short for your weight?!

What about the company you keep – will the dialogue between you and your closest confidantes sustain your mind for a lifetime?  Does the dialogue between you and those who you hold close to your heart sustain you or are they “killing you softly with their words?” Do you gain strength and encouragement just being in their company?  Are your closest friends positive, life-sustaining, encouraging, and a blessing to you at soul level?

How about your finances:  are you experiencing financial peace of mind on a daily basis or have your finances declared a TKO to your personal life?  Have you considered whether the financial action steps that you make today are worth talking about on tomorrow?  Are you using your finances today in a manner that will prepare you for a solid financial future?  Do you have enough money to sustain you when you retire?  What if you had to retire early – would you be able to live comfortably?

And finally, are you living an authentic life so that when you are alone with yourself you truly do enjoy the company you keep?

Just a few things to think about….build a life that is made to last!

Peace and Blessings!

The Power of Our Thoughts

The Power of Our Thoughts One factor that affects our lives to a great extent is the thoughts that we think.  We are, to a large extent, the sum total of the thoughts that we think.  Our thoughts are the framework and the impetus for the words that we speak and the actions that we take. In the Book of Proverbs it says, “As a man/woman thinks, so is he/she.  As you think, so you become. So we become our thoughts.  In Philippians 4:8, we are encouraged to think on these things:  “whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is honorable, whatever is kind, whatever is true, and whatever is worthy of reverence, think on these things.”  Now in a crazy economy or even when your money looks a bit crazy, we tend to forget this principle.

The life that you are now living is the very life that you have been thinking.  Sometimes we forget to be strong and very courageous because we become overwhelmed with the day-to-day routine, the people who we allow to ‘pluck our nerves,’ or the challenges that we forget will go.  We sometimes forget to be strong and very courageous.  In the midst of a job loss or a missed mortgage payment, I encourage you to rid your mind of the stressors of thinking negative thoughts.  Think thoughts that are pure, honorable, reverent and virtuous.  You are NOT your situation and you have to know that our God, Jehovah-Jireh, is waiting to assist you with your every need.

Here are three empowering tips to promote positive thinking:

First, think abundance and prosperity regardless of what your situation might seem to say.  Look for the good!  The word of God says to call those things that are not as though they were.  Abundant living and a prosperous life may not be a reality yet, but confess and believe the word of God until your situation lines up with the word of God.

Secondly, meditate on the word of God, both day and night.  Find a scripture – a word that encourages you – and think about that scripture constantly.  Just mutter and repeat that word over and over in your mind until it becomes second nature to you.  This is the simplest form of meditation.

Lastly, remember, that we serve a God who is constantly talking to us in some way ever single day.  The question is:  are you listening?  Allow Him to permeate your thoughts to live the victorious life that you are ordained to live.  Remember, change your thoughts to thinking more about the promises of God and I assure you, your life will change for the better.

Change your thoughts…Change your life!

Created to Soar

Created to SoarThere are so many examples of ordinary people who through trust, diligence and faith in an extraordinary God became great examples of God focused, God-infused, triumphant men and women in the Bible who soared to greatness in the midst of challenging situations.  A children created by an awesome God, we were created to soar, especially in the midst of difficult times,  It is in the midst of these difficult times that the power of God is fully manifested and His brilliance shines the best.  In the midst of a recession, a lay-off, or a corporate downsizing, we were created to soar!  .  You know, anyone can do well when the economy is great, but it takes exceptional strength and wisdom to thrive in the midst of difficult times.  You were created to soar, especially in the midst of tough times.  You were built to succeed against all odds.  That’s just the power of a loving God within is that takes us to greatest levels of success and victory.

We have to remind ourselves that we are created for such a time as this.  The events of this world should not come as a shock to us because we serve a God who is always aware of what is happening and how it will affect us, so our Creator is constantly talking to us, constantly guiding and constantly leading us.  The issue is that when we hear the clarion call in our innermost being, we tend not to heed the call.  God is constantly talking to us to give us strategies to soar in life – we are seldom listening.  He will whisper, ‘don’t buy that just yet – your timing is off.’ After we have made the purchase and it doesn’t turn out how we expected it to, we’ll even say, ‘something told me not to buy that.’  That’s God talking to you.  The Spirit of God will whisper gently, ‘don’t spend your last – you will need it.’ We, in our own arrogance, rely on our jobs and our limited ability and spend our last, not knowing that your hours at work will be reduced the next week.  That nudge, that gentle voice is the Spirit of God guiding you even in your financial life.  He is constantly leading you to soar.  He wants us to be His example in the earth.  God gets no glory if we, the believer is complaining, whining, grumbling as if we do not even acknowledge Him as Lord.  Our God is a phenomenal God that cannot and will not fail

Remember, you were created to soar and yes, you were created for such a time as this to be an encouragement even in the midst of a recession, depression or hard times.  You are the encourager to be a blessing to the people of God and to all those who are around you.

Recession Proof Your Finances

Recession Proof Your Finances

Here are some basic action steps to encourage you in your finances:

Stop complaining and grumbling.  If you are murmuring and complaining, then you are just not trusting God. And guess what?  No one wants to be around a complainer!  Stay in faith and believe God for the answers you desire.

Pray the promises of God and trust that He will deliver.  The word of God is filled with powerful words to bless our lives, our situations, and our finances.  Find the scripture that speaks to your financial situation and pray that scripture until your financial life reflects an image of God’s promise in His word.

Make a committed effort to save a portion of everything that you earn.  It doesn’t matter how small the amount, just consistently save.

Stop using credit and credit cards.  Pay cash!  Credit and credit card debt are a form of bondage.  Exercise your right to remain free financially and NOT impose slavery through credit cards and other debts in your life.

Set aside a time to get still and centered and wait for the voice of God to speak to you regarding your finances.  Yes, even in your finances, he cares about you and will provide instructions.  Just ask Him…His word says that He will answer you.  Now as you wait, still focus on being diligent in all that you do.

God is a Necessary Requirement

God is a Necessary RequirementIsaiah 55: 6 says, ‘Seek, inquire for, and require the Lord while He may be found claiming Him by necessity and by right; call upon Him while He is near.” (Amplified)  For your financial life and for every compartment of your awesome life, our God is a necessary and essential requirement!  We need God and the longer I live, the more I realize that I am desperate for His loving help, His wise counsel and gentle hand, especially in my finances. Our finances is one of the threads that blend through every part of our lives and even with all that I know about financial matters, I still run to God for help!  He is so necessary and every day we must claim Him by right just as He calls us His own.  Seek his face to find out what he wants you to do regarding a specific financial matter.  Ask him questions about your finances:  “God, what shall I do regarding my credit card debt or about purchasing this home.”

His word tells us ask, to seek and to knock and when we do these things according to His will we are sure to get the answers that we need for financial peace of mind.  Finances are the one area that causes us to be dismayed, worried, anxious, and stressed.  Why not call on the Lord and make Him a necessary requirement for your financial life?  Just like you need air, God is just as essential as air.  Just like you have to eat, you have to get to the point where you must eat the word of God to grow spiritually.  God, His word, the Angels that he has assigned to us, and the Holy Spirit, these are all essential and necessary requirements to living a blessed life, and you know as well as I do, these are requirements also for living a blessed financial life. And no, not just every now and them but a daily requirement, just like vitamins – a daily dose of the power of a mighty God who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you could ever ask, think or even imagine!

And when God is not a necessity, do you realize that in times of trouble, you are truly on life support?  I mean life support!  Make God your necessary requirement.  Call upon Him while he is near and claim Him by necessity and by right.  What an awesome promise from a God who adores us!

Proverbs to Live By

Proverbs to Live ByProverbs 12: 25 in the Amplified Bible states, “anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad.”  The Bible is filled with encouraging words that can empower and uplift our spirit, especially in the area of finances and I want to share just a few proverbs that I hope will encourage you.

Proverbs 13:18 - Poverty and shame come to her who refuses instruction and correction, but she who heeds correction is honored.  Life is filled with guidelines, instructions, action steps and if followed, they can lead to extraordinary success.  When we follow instructions, correct the errors of our way, it is then that we are honored.  Poverty and shame are the results of not making wise financial decisions.  When we know better, honor comes when we follow instructions and correction and do better.

Proverbs 10: 4 - He becomes poor who works with a slack and idle hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.  You can never ever become rich or have wealthy by being lazy – that’s what slack and idle means – lazy.  All wealth begins with work whether at a job or doing some form of work to create it a business.  Lazy people, people who will not apply themselves will never experience the full joy of financial freedom.  You must know that financial freedom demands that you are diligent and the word of God says that the hand of the diligent makes you rich.  So if you want wealth, if you want to be rich, then get focused on being diligent in aspects of your life.

Proverbs 14: 23 – In all labor there is profit, but idle talk leads only to poverty.  Again, you have to start with the basic:  find work or create work through a business.  There is profit in working.  However, idle talk – just talking about what you are going to do one day – leads only to poverty. It’s not just talk – it’s about execution, making it happen.

Proverbs 15: 22 - Where there is no counsel, purposes are frustrated, but with many counselors they are accomplished.  A person is completely frustrated where there is no advice or wisdom to apply to your life.  Take for example a business owner’s life.  A business owner should seek advice for the varied aspects of the business to take the business to the next level:  attorneys for law issues; accountant for tax matters; primary care doctor for my health status which greatly affects my performance; insurance agents for insurance needs; mentors to guide the way; mastermind groups to stretch you and push you to grow; and the word of God for overall guidance and integrity.  Get the help that you need – purposes are accomplished when there is wise counsel.

A Financially Empowered Woman

A Financially Empowered WomanPersonally, I think that our Creator just showed off when He created women!  O.K., I’m impartial, but I am right.  A financially empower phenomenally made woman who is centered and manages her finances according to the dictates of the word of God is a force to be reckoned with.  What a perfect Kodak moment!

When I read Proverbs 31 about the virtuous woman, I used to think:  with all that she has going on in her world, who would want to be compared to her?!  Who has a chance to even be in her company? She is a good wife, a great mom, a banker, a real estate broker, a business owner, a diligent worker, involved in her community, gives to the poor, a mentor, a counselor, a friend, and she’s even a seamstress! I don’t have a chance, so I used to think.  That’s because I underestimate the power of an extraordinary God on the life of an ordinary woman like myself.  As a business owner, I can relate to all the aspects of the Proverbs 31 woman and all that comes with that life, especially her financial life.  Not much happens without the financial life being in order.  Godly women must be about the business of getting financially empowered.  When a woman is empowered financially, her children are empowered and thus the next generation is empowered.  The community is blessed because she is making a difference in the marketplace and the nation is changed and empowered because she is making her mark at home and in the world.  As women, we owe it to ourselves to manage our finances well and to positively impact the world at large.

Consider these action steps that can make a positive difference in your financial life:
minimizd credit1 – Minimize credit card debt.
2 – Teach your children about finances
3 – Get credit in YOUR name and manage it wisely.
4 – Establish what I call a peace of mind fund, at least 2 to 4 months of income saved to cover expenses.
5 – Count the cost of every financial transaction.
6 – Get organized in your finances.
7 – Remember to seek God’s word for financial wisdom.

God is Able

God is AbleYou know, God can really handle our impossible financial situations. What seems like the impossible to us is nothing more than a mere occurrence to God.  Just regular day-to-day stuff to Him.  As a matter of fact, whatever God wanted, He spoke it into being. That’s the kind of God that we serve and He really can handle our finances if we would allow Him to do so.

Maybe you are experiencing a financial issue or maybe you are experiencing the same financial crisis month after month.  Here are a couple of conclusions to consider:  (1)  there is a specific action that you are doing to negatively cause chaos in your finances; or (2) Maybe you are missing a lesson or an opportunity to gain some wisdom in a particular area that will take your life to the next level and you are simply not getting it.  Until you master the lesson in a particular area of your financial life, the problem keeps showing up over and over and over again.  Let me give you an example, what if you are experiencing a shortfall at the end of every month. Just like clock work, you get paid; you look at what bills must be paid and when you add it all up, you never seem to have enough.  In this example, you are simply not following a financial law. Consider planning a month in advance by listing all of your expenses and the planned monthly amount. Stick with that plan to only spend your cash for the things that are on your list of expenses.  Goals and plans look good on paper, but that is not the problem.  The problem lies in the execution.

I challenge you to trust God, stay focus and act in faith and know that our God is able to do the impossible, even in our finances!

Pearls of Wisdom – Count the Cost

Pearls of WisdomThe first order of action:  Count the cost of every financial transaction.  In Luke 14:28, is begs the question, ‘who sets out to buy a building and doesn’t first count the cost?’  Relating this question to other aspects of our lives, who decides to go shopping and doesn’t first sit down and count the cost of buying those items?  Who decides to start a business and doesn’t sit down first and count the cost of such a venture?  Remember, it’s in the execution of our plans that we fail, so sitting down and counting the cost is essential to making our plans happen.

Secondly, track your spending and at the end of the month, do a review and compare if your monthly planned expenditure is what you actually spent.  Maybe your monthly plan is not reflective of what you are really spending. So be honest and look at what is really going on with you financially and adjust the plan based on actual spending.

Thirdly, speak faith-filled words constantly about your financial situations.  Many times we fail because we have used words that kill our financial vision BEFORE we even start.  The scripture says in Proverbs 18: 21 that ‘death and life are in the power of the tongue.’  So speak words of encouragement, joy and faith about your finances.  If you don’t, you have failed even before you begin.

Lastly, I encourage you to believe that our God is able to and can do the impossible.  He really is up to the challenge!  He is a loving Father who cares about what matters to you, which is why prayer, our communication with Him, is so important.  You are talking to everyone else about your finances - why not talk to God?  A God who created the entire universe can surely handle your finances, but you have to give Him something to work with.  So follow the first three steps and then you would have done your part.  Then start believing, step back and watch Him work.  He really is a God who can truly do the impossible!  An absolute God of more than enough!

Remember to count the cost!
